Collaborative Strategic Leadership Programme

The CSLP is a two-part residential strategic leadership programme designed to enhance the coherence and capabilities of the National Security community through common leadership development.Aimed at the Deputy Director level, it provides a challenging yet reflective environment in which individuals can gain a deeper understanding of themselves as a leader and an opportunity to share ideas on how to tackle the challenges facing the National Security community.

The residential nature of the programme, and the calming influence of Beckett House at the Defence Academy, provides a great opportunity for delegates to reflectively assess their current performance as a leader and how they would wish to interact with the wider National Security community. Exploration of self is enhanced through use of 360° and personality reports during one-on-one sessions with a professional coach.

Module 1 exposes delegates to the latest leadership ideas, concepts and challenges in sessions led by internationally renowned speakers and highly skilled facilitators from the Defence Academy and SIA Academy. The highly diverse nature of the delegates allows for a rich exploration of leadership and organisational experiences; open sharing, in a highly confidential environment is actively encouraged and Chatham house rules apply. There is a strong focus on collaboration and the needs and challenges of the National Security community.

The 4 month gap between modules is an ideal opportunity to put new learning and insights into practice. Delegates are encouraged to write a development plan of how they might introduce new ideas to their workplace and to report back on their progress. A second coaching session is available during this period to realign the plan if necessary.

In module 2, delegates are given the opportunity to share their recent experiences before looking more closely at collaborative practices.

Throughout the 2 modules, delegates will expand their knowledge and understanding of themselves as a leader whilst building relationships and expanding their peer network to provide advice and wise counsel long after the programme has finished.

Delegates are automatically invited back to the Defence Academy series of leadership masterclasses which run throughout the year.
