Campus Life at Shrivenham

The Shrivenham Campus has an excellent array of facilities and activities available to staff, students and their families during their time here at the Defence Academy. You’ll be part of a warm, welcoming community and there’s no shortage of things to do, both on and off Campus.

Activities at Shrivenham

The Defence Academy has a wealth of activities and clubs open to staff, students and their families, and the Academy Players lay on a number of productions each year.

The Shrivenham campus has its own fitness centres, outdoor sports pitches, tennis, badminton and squash courts, a golf course, stables, and an outdoor heated swimming pool (open from May to September).

Community Centre

Located near the Defence Academy, the Community Centre provides facilities for Service personnel and their families from both the United Kingdom and overseas together with all other Station personnel.

The Centre includes a ‘soft play’ area for younger children whilst parents enjoy refreshments from the Coffee Shop and is also home to the HIVE.  The idea behind the centre is to give the families (and of course staff and students) a place to meet old and new friends of differing nationalities in a friendly yet personal environment.

Friends and Families of the Defence Academy

The Friends and Families club is unlike any spouses’ club you have ever come across.  It is run by a group of wives of different nationalities, whose husbands are either studying or teaching on the different courses here at Shrivenham, or working elsewhere on the Station  The aim of the club is to ensure that everyone enjoys their time here, by offering opportunities to meet new people and enjoying their company whilst doing something a bit different.

The club organizes many events throughout the year which include a Children’s Christmas party, a Christmas Bazaar, an Easter Egg Hunt, a Pamper evening and trips to nearby attractions.   There are also regular coffee mornings that often have stalls run by wives and local small traders; a great way to find some unusual bargains.
