Director Defence Academy opens Language Centre
On 26 January, Defence Academy Director, Lt Gen Andrew Graham CBE opened the Shivenham Station Language Centre at Axis Road, Watchfield.
The Centre is to offer English as a foreign Language to the families of International officers attending courses at the Defence Academy, and also provides tuition in other languages to families across the entire Shrivenham Station.
Lt Gen Graham was invited to cut the tape to officially open the Language Centre by Shrivenham Station CO Lt Col Keith Willder, accompanied by RAdm Neil Morisetti (Comdt JSCSC), Mr Jonathan Lyle (Comdt DCMT) and Mr Peter Williams (Director DA Services, Serco). The ceremony was attended by invited guests, staff and students from the Centre.
The Director and guests were given a tour of the new facility by Mrs Judy Clarke who will manage the centre, followed by a truly 'International' lunch provided by students from all over the world.
In his speech to the attendees, Lt Gen Graham expressed his hope that the services which the Centre provides would encourage future International Students attending courses at the Defence Academy to be accompanied by their families. He extended his thanks to Lt Col (retd) Colin Strong (Site Estate Representative) for managing the refurbishment of the building and to Mrs Judy Clarke (Head of International Student Liaison) for seeing the need for the services of a Language Centre, and initiating the project. He concluded by congratulating the staff for their hard work in the promotion of language studies, thanking the students for their hospitality and wishing them good luck with their studies.
