Pat Bowes

Pat Bowes

Pat Bowes, the Language Centre Administrator is responsible for enrolment, registration, office administration and the day to day running of the Centre.

Pat came to the Centre with a wealth of experience, having been previously employed by Cranfield University as their Language Centre Administrator.  She has over twenty years experience in credit control and office management and is the definitely the linchpin of the Language Centre.

Keith Price

Keith Price

Colonel (Retired) Keith Price left the Army in 2003 after a full career.  He trained for his CELTA qualification at Regency Oxford before joining Cranfield University’s Language Unit. He specialised in teaching military English to officers of various nationalities in preparation for them to attend predominantly Army-run courses as well as courses at Cranfield University.  Latterly he has taught general English to those attending classes at the Language Centre and has enjoyed a high success rate with candidates sitting the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English.

Col Price also conducts remedial English Language courses for International officers taking courses at the Defence Academy, who require additional assistance with the language.

Sue Ashforth-Smith

Sue Ashforth-Smith

After university Sue pursued a career in marketing and sales before gaining a TEFL qualification to teach English as a foreign language. She taught English at all levels as well as some Italian. 

Sue has continued teaching English to foreign nationals and Italian for the last 20 years.  She teaches both general and exam courses from PET to IELTS and CPE, as well as individual bespoke courses when required. 

Sue loves the challenge of teaching and is always happy to help students.

Sue Hopkins

Sue Hopkins

Sue Hopkins has been a language teacher for the past 20 years and has a wide experience of teaching English, French and Spanish to all age groups, mainly adults, from absolute beginners to A level.

She has also been involved in language immersion days and workshops.

Sue has a Master’s degree in French Studies from the University of Reading and holds an adult education teaching certificate (FAETC) as well as a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

Judy Clarke

Judy Clarke

Judy Clarke is the Head of International Student Liaison at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, and has been at the college since it opened in 2000.   Her previous career path involved Public Relations, Sales, International Relocation Consultancy and NHS Practice Management.

Having seen a need for the services of a Language Centre to serve the needs of our International families, Judy sought the help of Senior Military Staff across the Defence Academy to find a suitable site and eventually open the Centre as it is today.  Judy is responsible for the management of the Centre.

Judy is a proud supporter of our International community at Shrivenham and is passionate about the future development of the Language Centre, the service it provides and the students it serves.
