Logistics Pre-Employment Training
Aim: To prepare officers for operational and non-operational logistic staff appointments
Joint Logistics Operations Course (JLOC)
Introduction
Following ICSC(L) officers selected for operational logistic staff appointments will attend the JLOC which is a two week course run at the Defence College of Logistics and Personnel Administration. The JLOC has been developed to provide logistics training for military appointments that deal with logistic planning and execution of joint expeditionary operations. The scope of the JLOC is wide ranging including analysis of logistics doctrine, the principles and planning factors underpinning the joint logistic plan, development of the logistics estimate, and their application within single service components as well as the multinational environment. The principles of mounting, deploying and sustaining operations are reinforced by experienced guest lecturers and visits.
Key Objectives
Duration 2 weeks
- Analyse the logistic planning framework and decision-making process at the strategic and operational level.
- Develop the logistic plan.
- Evaluate the execution of the logistic plan.
Endstate
Provide an officer with the knowledge and practical skills for staff appointments requiring a detailed understanding and application of logistic planning and execution of joint and expeditionary operations up to strategic level.
Staff Officers' Logistics Course (SOLC)
Introduction
Following ICSC(L) officers selected for non-operational logistic staff appointments will attend the SOLC which is a one week course at the Defence Academy prior to taking up their initial staff appointments. The SOLC has been developed to provide focused training for military appointments that deal with the wide range of infrastructure and support issues involved in the generation of capability at readiness.
Key Objectives
Duration 1 week
- Evaluate the management of logistic supporting activities in peace.
- Evaluate the management of contracts.
- Explain the organization, roles and business practices of the DE&S, focusing on the Defence Supply Chain and the Land environment.
- Evaluate outsourcing options.
Endstate
Provide an officer with the knowledge and practical skills for staff appointments requiring a detailed understanding and application of non-operational logistics.
