Leadership and Management
Our purpose is to improve the ability of our people to lead, manage and command by giving them the necessary vocabulary, tools and techniques to be able to operate more effectively at all levels of Defence, including the most senior and strategic positions.
Our partnership with Cranfield University, together with contributions from carefully selected external speakers combine to provide delegates with a wide range of specialist programmes. These are designed to meet the demands of managers and strategic leaders in Defence and many of our courses are also of benefit to wider markets in the Public and Private sectors. The increasing availability of blended learning and e-learning opportunities means that all aspects of development required to pursue a career as a senior leader/manager in the Ministry of Defence, or indeed elsewhere, can be provided efficiently and effectively. Delegates are drawn from across the whole UK Defence Community as well as from industry and overseas.
We recognise fully the different requirements for leaders at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels and in different career specialisations and aim to meet the full range of these needs. We strive to maintain close engagement with our wide customer base to ensure that the education we provide meets their needs and addresses key initiatives.
Our Programme ranges from those courses providing fundamental skills required by managers dealing with day-to-day issues, to the Senior Responsible Owners (SRO) one day Master Classes. The Higher Education for Acquisition (HEfA) Programme, has been developed to meet the educational needs of the acquisition community at the strategic level: Defence Strategic Portfolio and Programme Management, Defence Strategic Support Management and Defence Strategic Commercial Programme. In addition the Advanced Introduction to Acquisition (AIA) prepares senior personnel for acquisition posts.
We can also provide bespoke education interventions. Our research team provides a point of focus for the coordination of research activity and the investigation of current trends. International run courses to help allies and friends to better manage their defence sectors. The Joint Equality and Diversity Training Centre (JEDTC) provides specialist training to Service and Civil Service personnel.
