Technology Division
Working closely with our long term Academic Provider Cranfield University, our aim is to develop and deliver education and training in all aspects of technology for Defence, including the wider context of security and resilience. Our courses provide world class learning opportunities for MOD staff, both Military and Civil Service, across a wide spectrum of MOD activity. In support of Defence Industrial and Technology Strategies and wider Government policies, our courses attract include students from defence-related industry and from overseas.
The range of courses available are varied both in subject matter and delivery method. Courses delivered at Masters level include, but are not limited to, guided weapons, explosives, military electronics, information management and technology, systems engineering and modelling and simulation. Many of these are available in a modular format with accredited modules leading to Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) or MSc qualifications. This approach offers maximum flexibility to customers, future employers and prospective students.
Shorter courses range from pre-Employment Training for staff about to take up specialist posts through to the Senior Officers Applied Technology Course. The courses cover subjects across the technology spectrum from radar to ballistics, and vary in length from one day to several weeks. Many courses are delivered to MOD staff “free at the point of delivery” and military Directing Staff support the students and governance of the courses. Other courses have been developed as “complementary business” by Cranfield University in response to the wider Defence market and we are keen to engage with potential customers.
Defence Capability Centre (DCC)
Integral to the delivery of education and training in technology is the Defence Technology Centre (DCC) situated on the Defence Academy site at Shrivenham. The facility, which opened on 1 April 2007, provides leading edge facilities and resources to enable effective learning in the practical elements of defence technology. It has two main goals:
- to enable more effective delivery of technology-based education and training in a stimulating environment. The DCC layout is flexible and supports a wide range of modern educational delivery methods with real military hardware.
- to provide high quality Defence synthetic environments to enable research, experimentation and integration that includes supporting the themes of NEC and CBM.
The DCC has several reconfigurable, flood-wired syndicate rooms and synthetic environments as well as a large main hall (110m x 17m) and five equipment halls. In addition, the large adjacent car park is ducted so that external static vehicle and units can be connected to the DC network.
These facilities are available for hire subject to availability. For further details, please contact the DCC Manager on +44 (0)1793 785569
