Operation 'Overlord' - The Allied Invasion of NW Europe

Operation Overlord was the codename for the Allied invasion of northwest Europe. The assault phase, which commenced on D-Day, 6 June 1944, was codenamed Operation Neptune and consisted of amphibious landings at Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha, and Utah beaches, and at Pointe du Hoc, together with airborne landings by the British 6th and US 81st and 101st Airborne Divisions.

Operation OverlordThe JSCSC Archive contains a number of documents relating to the D-Day landings and the Battle for Normandy. These include administrative and operational orders, reports, and official publications relating to British and Commonwealth Forces on Sword, Gold, and Juno beaches, the landings by 6th Airborne Division between the Ornes and Dives rivers, and subsequent operations in Normandy, including, Epsom, Charnwood, Goodwood, Bluecoat, and Totalize.
