Call for Papers - The Gulf and Globe Conference (II) 2010
The "Gulf and the Globe Conference (II) 2010" is the second instalment of this prestigious series and will be hosted jointly by the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College’s Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies and the US Naval Academy’s Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies.
The interdisciplinary series brings together a mix of academics, officials, military officers, industry and commerce who share an interest in the subject and who wish to investigate the relationships between the world’s global powers and the local states of the region.
A prime purpose of the conference series is to expand the academic literature analysing the military and political dimensions of Gulf security, particularly the role of the global powers. The geostrategic and political factors that define the region, from the physical approaches to the Gulf, to the Gulf States themselves, will be assessed. Individual sessions will examine the unique and shared challenges facing specific states. This will be followed by wider thematic sessions including energy, economic and military security and finally the role of external powers in the Gulf region.
Paper proposals are invited from prospective participants in the following topics:
- Approaches to the Gulf: Yemen, Oman, Indian Ocean
- Saudi Arabia
- Iran
- Iraq
- The Gulf States: Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE
- Energy and economic security
- Military security
- The ‘Great Powers’ and the Gulf (United States, Europe, Russia, China, India)
