Visits by VAdm Sir Adrian Johns KCB, CBE, ADC and Vice Admiral Ibbotson CB DSC
VAdm Sir Adrian Johns visited the Defence Academy on 5 Oct 09 and gave a candid and thought provoking presentation to the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) on the key tenets of Naval life and the uniqueness of leadership at sea.
VAdm Sir Adrian, who until Jul last year was 2SL/CNH, adeptly set the scene for ACSC’s Front Line Command Capability (Maritime) module. The week long package of talks, coupled with ship and submarine visits in Devonport examined how the Royal Navy delivers military capability and generates forces at the operational level.
VAdm Ibbotson, DCinCFleet presented the keynote speech to the ACSC at the conclusion to the Maritime Combat Power Visit (MCPV) week. Referring to both the practical demonstrations of maritime capability that the students had witnessed during a visit to Devonport dockyard earlier in the week, and upon personal experiences from throughout his career, his speech summarised the Royal Navy’s current commitments and future aspirations. In particular he addressed the increasingly joint nature of future maritime activity.
