Visits to ACSC 13 Maritime students by Chief of the Naval Staff and First Sea Lord

Maritime students and staff of the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) 13 recently had the privilege to welcome the First and Second Sea Lords, Adm Sir Mark Stanhope and Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey, to the JSCSC during the Single Service phase of their Joint Course.

Admiral Stanhope, who is 7 weeks in to his tenure as 1SL, used the opportunity to provide a candid brief on the challenges and opportunities ahead of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines during the formulation of the Defence Green Paper and lead up to a Future Defence Review. Vice Admiral Massey and his team gave presentations on Naval Personnel Strategy. The Single Service phase is integral to, but precedes, the main body of the Advanced Course which concentrates on “Joint” aspect of Defence and is designed to refresh students on the specific considerations of their Single Service environment.
