Defence Academy leads NATO Anti-Corruption Course in Kabul
On the 11th February 2009, 38 leaders and mentors of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan graduated from an anti-corruption course (part of the Building Integrity in Defence Establishments collaborative programme) conducted over three days in Kabul.
This course was adapted to the Afghan audience from a series of pilot courses, which took place in the Balkans throughout 2007 and 2008, also tackling corruption in the defence and security sector. The programme aims to enhance professionalism and strengthen the foundation for leadership, integrity, good governance and management in the defence and security sectors by sharing experiences, challenges, and best practices between nations, whether established, transitional, or developing.
The course has been developed by five different institutions, including the Geneva centre for Security Policy, the Swedish National Defence College, the NATO School and Transparency International, with the UK Defence Academy in the lead. Deputy Commander International Security Assistance Force (D COMD ISAF), Lieutenant-General Ed Dutton, addressed the course, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provided a visiting speaker.
