NATO PfP Building Integrity Module – First Pilot Module Success
The first pilot of a new foundation module entitled ‘Building Integrity’ was very successfully delivered to a group of eighteen international participants last week (21-25 July) at the Defence Academy.
The overarching themes of the module, aimed at staff from the Defence and Security sectors of NATO nations, Partners and aspirant Partners, were reducing corruption, promoting transparency and building integrity. The first pilot included participants from Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Romania, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Poland, UK, Norway and Switzerland. Initial feedback from the Participants indicated that they had not only enjoyed the week but greatly benefited from the experience. We believe all departed with a greater awareness of corruption issues, new ideas as to how to promote transparency, a few more ‘tools’ in their anti-corruption bag, and of course, new friends and colleagues.
The module was designed and delivered on a collaborative basis by staff from several Components of the Defence Academy of UK, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the Swedish National Defence College and Transparency International UK. A number of eminent visiting speakers and experts in the field also contributed to the programme. The initiative, led by UK Defence Academy, heralded the Defence Academy’s first major contribution as a NATO PfP Education and Training Centre.
Following the success of the first pilot module, a second will be run at the NATO School Oberammergau from 8-12 September 08 followed by one at the Peace Keeping Operations Training Centre in Sarajevo 15-19 December 08. Further information about the module may be obtained from the Programme Director - Defence Academy Chief of Staff, Colonel Mike Montagu.
