The Commanding Officer and all ranks of Taurus Squadron extend their congratulations to first-year bursar Officer Cadet Heather Douglas, 18, from East Yorkshire, who recently won one of ten scholarships awarded by the Department of Physical Sciences and Engineering at Birmingham University. The Shamnath Grice Excellence Scholarship pays an additional bursary of £5000 per annum to outstanding students who maintain a first performance.

Heather Douglas was presented with her Excellence Award at the University of Birmingham on the evening of 22 November

In addition, the scholarship requires Heather to act as an ambassador for the university, a task she is looking forward to:

“Receiving the scholarship is an honour, and I am very humbled to have been chosen for it. Apart from the financial benefit, I think being an ambassador for the University will be a great experience”.

Heather is planning to join one of the technical corps in the Army after initial officer training at Sandhurst and admits to being more than a little excited by the prospect of using ‘interesting, practical applications of real-world engineering’.
