Cranfield University - Academic Provider to the Defence College of Management and Technology
Cranfield University was delighted to be selected to continue as Academic Provider in Management and Technology until 2028. Since 1984, Cranfield has been working as partner to the Royal Military College of Science, providing academic instruction and assessment to the College’s course programmes, and developing these programmes to support the changing needs of the Armed Services, and supporting this instruction with an increasing volume of relevant research.
The delivery of the course programme, and underpinning research, supports the Defence Academy’s goal of producing high-quality course graduates who are fit-for-purpose and intellectually agile, militarily adept, technologically aware with the expertise that meets the evolving needs of Defence. The Defence Academy combines the breadth of subject expertise of the academic community with the operational experience of Serving Officers.
While the majority of the Cranfield University staff who deliver the course programme are based at Shrivenham, staff from the internationally leading Cranfield School of Management contribute increasingly to the leadership and management curriculum of the College. Technical and engineering expertise of the other Schools of the University can also be utilised as required.
With the increasing need for distance and electronically delivered courses, Cranfield has selected the Open University as its Principal Subcontractor to ensure that this element is delivered effectively into the future. Cranfield and the OU will work together to develop and deliver programmes to enhance the availability of education throughout the MOD and internationally.
Cranfield University also utilises its staff and facilities to deliver course programmes and to undertake research for the wider defence and security related community It is able to support industry, UK government and its agents, and overseas governments by providing bespoke courses, research, development and consultancy. Hence, suppliers and customers in defence are brought together to learn in a context relevant to both, stimulating creative and innovative thinking.
The combined strengths and international reputation of Cranfield University and the Defence Academy are focussed to meet customer needs, making the DCMT the provider of choice for an expanding portfolio of education, including research and consultancy, in the defence and security sectors. Additionally, collaboration is sought between the MOD, CU and industry to achieve a comprehensive approach to operations and contribute to professional skills for government.
