Blast Loading - BLOAD - 13 - 15 Feb 2012

Suitable For

The course is suitable for those with an engineering degree or similar qualification who are interested in developing this knowledge.

Course Aim

The aim of the course is to enable students to quantify blast loads from a variety of different explosive sources including condensed high explosive and nuclear devices, to appreciate both the effect such loading has on different target structures and how the response of such structures is analysed.

Course Components

Blast waves from the detonation of high explosives and nuclear devices in air

  • Blast wave interactions with solid surface
  • Internal blast loading of structures.
  • Explosions from "non-ideal" sources such as dusts, hydrocarbon gases, vapour clouds and fuel-air explosives.
  • Blast wave scaling and the principles of scale-modelling of target structures.
  • Examples of the behaviour of real structures subjected to blast loading.
  • Techniques for simulating blast waves.
  • Software for blast wave and weapons effects calculations.
  • Methods of absorbing blast wave energy
  • Introduction to analysis of response of structures and personnel
