Defence Strategic Commercial Course - DSCC - 19 - 22 Feb 2012

This course is one of three strategic level courses comprising the Higher Education for Acquisition (HEfA) Programme.

Suitable For

The Defence Strategic Commercial Course (DSCC) provides an intellectual environment in which to inform and encourage debate amongst senior managers on the challenges which they face at the strategic level.

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of commercial best practice and how this could be applied in the defence environment. This is followed by a series of 3 electives designed to meet individual developmental objectives.

Entry Requirements

The Programme is designed for strategic managers, broadly those at 1*/SCS level but also OF5s/Band Bs in strategic posts or about to fill posts such as IPT Leader or equivalent.

Course Objectives

By the end of the Programme delegates will be able to:

  • Understand innovative approaches to procurement, contracting and the management of suppliers.
  • To develop perspectives of commercial best practice through case studies of leading commercial organisations.
  • To consider fundamental financial aspects that impact upon commercial activities and recognise challenges of innovative solutions within the defence environment.
  • To analyse the complex issues that exist within a specific defence commercial relationship scenario and understand the influences that drive customer and supplier behaviour.
  • To discuss the need for professionalism in order to enable effective commercial decision making.
