Explosives for Nuclear Weapons - EXPNW - 13 - 17 Feb 2012

Engineers and explosive scientists who are aware of the processes involved with the manufacturing of conventional weapons will understand the type of explosives, the output, and geometry requirements. These processes have been modified and in some cases new technologies invented to obtain explosives for nuclear weapon system. This course highlights the differences between explosives used in conventional weapons and those used in nuclear weapons. The course is delivered by experts within all areas of nuclear weapons technology with a focus towards explosives.

Persons in the Defence and Security sectors requiring a greater understanding of explosives and technology behind nuclear weapons.

This accredited short course, which is taught at MSc standard, is one of the modules that comprise the MSc in Explosive Ordnance Engineering.

Entry Requirements

Appropriate qualification in science or engineering or relevant experience. It is advisable for students to have attended Introduction to Explosives course or equivalent. British National and Security cleared to Secret.

Duration Details

5 days (4 off-site*) *Four days at AWE, Aldermaston and one day at DA-CMT - please note that Transport and accommodation is not included.
