High flyers in their chosen profession, at senior Colonel to Brigadier level or their equivalent, who have demonstrated their potential for high responsibilities in their parent organisation or Service.
The engendering of strategic understanding, through rigorous analysis of the international security and defence agenda and the levers that provide for security, stability and prosperity; and the inculcation of the key tenets of strategic leadership.

The RCDS graduate understands the international strategic context, is skilled in analysis and able to work intuitively across national, cultural and ideological boundaries to lead or contribute to developing strategy at the highest level.

Term 2: Conflict and Strategy
Term 3: Contemporary International Issues
Term 4: Leadership in the Strategic Environment
Options: Term 1 only, Term 2 only, Term 4 only, and other combinations and sub-options
During their academic year at RCDS, Course Members may, on passing an entrance exam, study for an MA in International Security and Strategic Studies under a jointly sponsored programme with King's College London.
