- Defence Acquisition Change Programme Upskilling - Launch Event
- Defence Academy hosted an official launch event in Main Building London on 8 July to mark the publication of the Guide to Acquisition Training and Education (GATE) version 2, new courses resulting from DACP Upskilling and dblearning’s new Go-Le@rn Mobile Learning Service.
- RCDS Visit to Brussels 2008
- As part of the Future of European Security phase in the Contemporary International Issues term, the 2008 RCDS Course paid a 2 day visit to Brussels to address the key issues facing NATO and the EU.
- Centre des Hautes Etudes Militaires and Royal College of Defence Studies Conference
- A seminar group of 13 Members from RCDS visited the Centre des Hautes Etudes Militaires (CHEM) in Paris from Tuesday 27 May to Friday 30 May. This is an annual exchange, alternating between London and Paris.
- The Royal College of Defence Studies hosts the Central Top Level Budget Commendation Awards.
- The Vice Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Timothy Granville-Chapman, and the Second Permanent Under Secretary, Sir Ian Andrews, presented the Central Top-Level Budget Commendation Awards at the Royal College of Defence Studies, Seaford House, on 9 May 2008. The event, to recognise the exceptional effort made by people in the Central TLB, consisted of a formal ceremony, at which framed certificates of achievement were presented to the award winners.
- Royal College of Defence Studies Visit to the United States
- RCDS conducted a study visit to New York and Washington between 12th and 18th April 2008. This was the third such visit to the US by the whole College and comprised of a lecture and seminar programme arranged in New York by the staff of the United Kingdom Permanent Representative (UK PERMREP), and in Washington by the National Defence University (NDU).
- Lieutenant General Andrew Graham takes over from Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely
- On 30 May 08 Lieutenant General Andrew Graham CBE assumed the post of Director Defence Academy from Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely KCB MC.
- Young Muslim Leadership Course - 20th May 2008
- The Defence Academy Culture Institute was very pleased to host the graduation of the first ‘Young Muslim Leadership Course’ pioneered by the Active Change Foundation.
- Guide to Acquisition Training and Education (GATE)
- The 2008/09 edition of the GATE has now been published, a significantly expanded version that captures the new acquisition courses developed under the Defence Acquisition Change Programme. It also includes routes to acquiring internal/external qualifications, details of professional bodies and information about learning support tools.
- Higher Command and Staff Course (HCSC) Staff Ride 08
- The HCSC Staff Ride is the climax of a 14-week course aimed at educating the top 2-3% of Colonels, Captains (RN), and Group Captains in higher command and operational art. Taking place predominantly in Northern France and focussed initially on the D-Day landings and subsequent advance to the Rhine, the specific aim of the Staff Ride is to provide, through military historical example, a practical focus for the study and analysis of high command and the planning and execution of future campaigns and major operations, within a combined and joint context. Always a much anticipated conclusion to the course, this year’s was once again a huge success which, for the first time, included a visit to Belgium.

- The Armed Forces Chaplaincy Centre in Andover played host to the second ever 'Chardi Kala' for all Sikh serving personnel, from the 9 - 11 May 2008.
- Closer working in new Acquisition Learning and Upskilling
- Industry and MOD Conference Addresses Acquisition Challenges
- On the 08 and 09 April an Acquisition Conference was held at the Defence Academy to develop ideas for reducing the costs of doing business, shortening acquisition cycle times and improving the effectiveness of delivery.
- Finale to ICSC(L) Course 4a - Exercise EURO OWL, 17-23 Apr 08
- Exercise EURO OWL included a Staff Ride of Op MARKET GARDEN, Arnhem.
- Visit to RCDS of His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf
- On Monday 28th January 2008, His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf (RCDS 1990), accompanied by several of his senior Ministers, visited the Royal College of Defence Studies in between his appearance at the Davos world economic summit, and meetings with the Prime Minister.

- Since it was established in 2002, the Defence Academy has sought to stimulate ideas and debate on the rapidly changing security environment in which we find ourselves today, and the responses that this should elicit from the Armed Forces.

- On Friday 9th November 2007, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Royal College of Defence Studies.
- Cranfield University awarded Queen’s Anniversary Prize for international demining programme
- World-renowned science, technology and management institution, Cranfield University, has been awarded a 2007 Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for its leading international role in humanitarian demining.
- DACP Upskilling Roadshow Presentation Abbey Wood
- DCMT held a roadshow at DE&S Abbey Wood on 26 October 2007 to explain the new training and education being developed in support of the Defence Acquisition Change Programme. The event was opened by General Sir Kevin O’Donoghue Chief of Defence Materiel and Tim Flesher Chief of Corporate Services. Rear Admiral Neil Latham Comdt DCMT also helped to introduce the presentation and explained that the new training opportunities were for both civilian and military staff across the wider acquisition community.
