Industry and MOD Conference Addresses Acquisition Challenges

On the 08 and 09 April an Acquisition Conference was held at the Defence Academy to develop ideas for reducing the costs of doing business, shortening acquisition cycle times and improving the effectiveness of delivery.

The conference brought together industry leaders and senior MOD representatives under the sponsorship of DCDS (EC) Lt General Andrew Figgures and was opened by PUS Sir Bill Jeffrey.

Building on the ongoing work of DACP, the conference discussed initiatives which will encourage an enhanced acquisition process aiming to increase the agility, flexibility and transparency of the UK defence sector. These initiatives included increased partnering and alliancing, a joined up approach to research and technology, improved technology insertion and the benefits of Through Life Capability Management (TLCM).

Taking the lead in acquisition reform, DACP will address a number of the key messages raised at the conference and will be integral in developing the joint MoD/Industry agreed plans to drive forward the necessary changes.

Commenting on the event Sir Bill Jeffrey said “It’s only by continuing to deliver acquisition change that we will be able to meet the requirements of the Front Line today and into the future.  That is why it is important that we continue to work together, developing innovative ideas to make our defence industry more competitive and our delivery to the Front Line more effective”.
