Visit to RCDS of His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf
On Monday 28th January 2008, His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf (RCDS 1990), accompanied by several of his senior Ministers, visited the Royal College of Defence Studies in between his appearance at the Davos world economic summit, and meetings with the Prime Minister.
A regular visitor to RCDS, this occasion was particularly interesting in view of the recent death of Benazir Bhutto, and with the instability of the impending elections in Pakistan.
On arrival, His Excellency, who was accompanied by his wife, was received by the recently appointed Commandant of the RCDS, Vice Admiral Charles Style CBE, as well as the two Pakistani Officers on the 2008 course and their families.
He and his wife then moved to a private room for a reunion meeting with a number of their friends from the 1990 course alumni and their wives. The President has often said how much he values these informal meetings with old friends, where discussion can be completely candid and the enjoyment of the interaction during RCDS 1990 be re-captured.
Returning to the present, His Excellency then addressed the 2008 course, giving a broad impression of the difficulties facing Pakistan in these difficult times, and outlined his aspirations for the future.
Some of his responses to questions revealed the complexity of such issues, so often misunderstood by the world’s press.
