Pandemic Human Flu (Swine Flu)
We can confirm that 4 officers, on returning from America, presented themselves with flu like symptoms.
The Staff at the Defence Academy took immediate action, in liaison with the Health Protection Agency and cross government advice relating to the handling of Swine Flu cases.
They received medical treatment in isolation and have now been confirmed as clear of Swine Flu.
For ref, the Immediate Action Drill (IA) on developing Flu like symptoms is:
- ISOLATE YOURSELF as far as prac.
- Mil: Telephone the Med Centre (x5552) and inform your CofC. Do not report in person to the Medical Centre.
- Civ: Contact your local GP and/or NHS Direct 0845 4647. Inform Line Manager. Do not go straight to the GP surgery or local Accident and Emergency Department unless advised to do so.
- If you fall sick at home, stay at home.
The Defence Academy PHF Policy statement, including useful points of contact, can be found on the DAIS home page.
A Swine Flu Information Line (0800 1 513 513) has been provided by the Department of Health to offer general advice.
We remain committed to ensuring we are pragmatic in our approach, focussed on the safety and security of all at the Defence Academy whilst then, and only then, keeping our business going.
