About this course

Strategy and Policy aims to enable delegates to analyse and apply the factors that shape the international system and how these factors ultimately affect the UK security within the context of a postgraduate learning environment.

Applications timelines for the various categories are as follows:
  • MOD civil servants and other government departments, no later than 3 weeks before the start of the course
  • foreign military and civil servant expressions of interest need to be declared by 20 Aug 2017
  • industry partners and non government organisations no later than 20 October 2017
MOD civil servant application forms will need to be supported by completion of the Line Management approval section before a place on the course can be allocated.

  • the challenges in developing strategy
  • how policy is formulated

How will this course help my career?

Providing a valuable insight for civil servant B2/C1s or personnel at that equivalent level of management; within the context of defence’s contribution to understanding international security and perspectives in an operational level, this unique study opportunity explores the current perceptions at time of delivery on the security situation associated with global and regional security both in the UK and overseas perspective.

Working alongside military and civilian personnel studying full time on the Advanced Command Staff Course will allow interaction and contribution within a professional and unique learning environment.

This course will provide delegates with the information on understanding strategy and policy and the importance of such tools of delivery within the working environment and will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter.

Security and restrictions

Civil servants and OGD grade: B2/G7  C1/SEO, or industry equivalent. 

Overseas military or civil servants required a good standard of fluency in written and spoken English (NATO SLP 3333) and be comfortable with learning in English at post-graduate level.

Before you attend

Pre-reading material will be identified and is essential to personnel achieving good learning outcomes from attendance on the course.

You will be enrolled on the course Virtual Learning Environment to support engagement in the learning process.
