About this course

This is a 4-week stand-alone course which leads to the relevant SLP examination and is usually delivered on request.

Application is carried out through IDT(A).

What you will learn

The SLP exam courses focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and students work with a wide range of materials and topics, all written specifically for this course and based on authentic sources such as the BBC, British military publications and newspapers. The course is suitable for those who would like to work for NATO or other international organisations. The course will not increase the SLP level of a candidate, rather it will refresh skills and examine the candidate at the relevant SLP so that their language skills can be formalised and recognised by NATO partner countries.

How will this course help my career?

This course refreshes the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing at the relevant STANAG SLP level. The courses attract military personnel from across the globe.

The STANAG SLP Level 1 and 2 proficiencies are Survival and Functional respectively, they are often used by NATO organisations as pre-requisites for attending courses.

The STANAG SLP Level 3 proficiency is the level required by many of the NATO partners' military personnel wishing to work within NATO organisations and as such highly sought after by many NATO members.

The STANAG SLP Level 4 proficiency is that of an educated native speaker of English. It is a high level of language proficiency and would enable personnel to work effectively in organisations using English as a first language.
