About this course

This course is delivered by Cranfield University on behalf of Technology School, Defence Academy.

The Battlespace Technology Course has been designed to provide you, as a newly promoted major from the Army or Royal Marines, with a broad understanding of military technology and current military acquisition knowledge, in order to equip you with the skills prior to a demanding capability and acquisition related staff appointment.  

You, as a successful student, will be awarded a post graduate diploma and will subsequently be given the opportunity to complete a dissertation in the 2 years following the course for which an MSc can be awarded.

Keeping courses up-to-date and current requires constant innovation and change. The modules currently offered in connection with this MSc reflect the needs of our business however they may change or be withdrawn due to research developments, legislation changes or for a variety of other reasons, depending on the year of entry. Changes may also be designed to improve the student learning experience or to respond to feedback from students, external examiners, accreditation bodies and industrial advisory panels.

What you will learn

The course begins with an introduction to military technology and is followed by in depth education in the fields of information manoeuvre, battlespace manoeuvre and modelling and simulation. 

Towards the end of the course there is a period of defence acquisition and project management training which is followed by a 6 week module of capability integration based on a current capability gap.

How will this course help my career?

The course will prepare you well for a challenging capability and acquisition appointment up to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Before you attend

A relevant technical physical science honours degree is the preferred pre-requisite for attendance on the course. You will be accepted without a relevant degree or a degree of any kind if you can demonstrate a suitable amount or relevant experience by written CV. 

If you are seeking a Ministry of Defence (MOD) funded place, you will need to demonstrate in your application that there is a clear business need to undertake the course.
