About this course

Language acquisition courses at SLP1, 2, 3 or 4 to meet Defence requirements. Course duration varies depending upon the complexity of the language being taught. Courses are provided for SoTR’d students only; further details are outlined in the Defence Language Training DIN. Cultural awareness will be acquired through delivery of the language syllabus

At present there are no accreditation options available for Defence language students.

Future course dates are annotated on the Defence FLT DIN; deadline for applications is two weeks prior to the course start date.

What you will learn

You will acquire language skills up to the SLP level required by Defence. All FLT courses are underpinned by the NATO STANAG. Further information about International Defence language training can be found on the Bureau for International Language Co-ordination (BILC) website

Before you attend

You must complete the MLAT, grammar revision and study skills awareness prior to arrival on course.

This course is suitable for the following type(s) of applicant.

  • MOD Civil Servants
  • Partners Across Government (PAG)

How will you be assessed?

Students only requiring training to L1 will sit the L1 exam. All other students will sit the Defence MODLEB Language exam.
