About this course
The course will provide you with a basic understanding of the way in which stresses and strains develop in engineering components. Methods of determining stresses will be explained. From knowledge of stress distributions, criteria will be developed which determine the failure of engineering components.
The study of failure will include instability, yield, brittle fracture and fatigue. The use of fracture will be treated in some depth. The mechanics of fibre-reinforced composite materials will also be discussed.
What you will learn
You will learn:
to understand the development of stresses and strains
the methods of determining stresses
to develop criteria which determine the failure of engineering components
to understand instability, yield, brittle fracture and fatigue
How will this course help my career?
This course will give you an insight into the failure of structural materials if you have no undergraduate degree in mechanical or civil engineering.
Security and restrictions
