About this course

This course is delivered by Cranfield University on behalf of the Technology School, Defence Academy. 

This course has two intakes per year, subject to demand: Mon 7 Sep 20 and Mon 11 Jan 21 (subject to demand).

Key goals of the course are to provide you with postgraduate level education in order to:
  • develop an awareness of the management, user and supplier communities
  • recognise the stakeholder roles, needs and expectations within these communities
  • enable effective communication and a shared understanding between these stakeholders in order to meet capability objectives
  • master the principles and practice that underlie the delivery of effective systems, in the business and battle space that exploit information in order to provide strategic benefit

Keeping courses up-to-date and current requires constant innovation and change. The modules currently offered in connection with this MSc reflect the needs of our business however they may change or be withdrawn due to research developments, legislation changes or for a variety of other reasons, depending on the year of entry. Changes may also be designed to improve the student learning experience or to respond to feedback from students, external examiners, accreditation bodies and industrial advisory panels.

How will this course help my career?

As the course is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), completion of the course can lead to Chartered Professional Status.

Before you attend

In order to attend the course, you are normally expected to have a 1st or 2nd class honours degree or equivalent. Alternatively, a lesser qualification with relevant professional experience. Exceptional candidates with relevant professional experience only may also be accepted. 

If English is not your native language, you must attain an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 6.5. 

If you are enrolling part-time, you are required to attend the college for approximately 5 days per module.

If you are seeking a Ministry of Defence (MOD) funded place, you will need to demonstrate in your application that there is a clear business need to undertake the course.

How will you be assessed?

Assessment is spread throughout the programme and includes coursework, group presentations, examinations during the taught phase and for the MSc a research based dissertation.
