About this course

This course is designed specifically for those attending Advanced Marine Engineering at UCL.  You will learn how to perform programming tasks using MATLAB/Simulink in support of your masters programme.  You will do this via several graduated exercises in data handling, matrix computations, numerical solution of ordinary differential equations and simple visualisations of computations.

What you will learn

You will learn:
  • how to work with matrices
  • the revision of mathematical topics including complex numbers, matrices and determinants, inverse trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions, solution of initial value problems
  • gain working knowledge of array operations and their effect use
  • how to write effective MATLAB scripts/functions for data handling
  • how to work with data sets in MATLAB
  • the use of file I/O – reading from and writing data to a file
  • the use of numerical solvers
  • the zeros of a function, solutions of ordinary differential equations, initial value problems and unconstrained maxima/minima
  • how to develop simple graphical user interfaces in MATLAB
