About this course

The material covered will encompass the technologies and techniques applicable to radar, electro-optic and communications electronic warfare (EW) systems.

The radar and electro-optic elements of the course will examine the use of EW techniques in the suppression of the radar and electro-optic sensors that are used for target detection, tracking and weapon guidance.

For this, the principles underlying radar sensors, electro-optic sensors that are used for target detection, tracking and weapon guidance will be addressed with a specific focus on areas of sensor weakness.

What you will learn

You will learn/develop:
  • Mil EW 1.0:  to understand the basic principles of electronic warfare (EW) techniques
  • Mil EW 2.0: to understand how EW principles relate to communications, radar and electro-optic systems
  • Mil EW 3.0:  to understand and apply modern signal processing techniques and specific EA, ED and ES techniques such as spread spectrum, jamming and adaptive antennas, and understand how they are used in the Battlespace.
  • Mil EW 4.0: to understand the EW techniques used to suppress the radar and electro-optic sensors used for target detection and weapon guidance
  • Mil EW 5.0:  to appreciate the technology which underpins radar, electro-optic sensors and weapon guidance

How will this course help my career?

On top of the skills gained as described this course is an ideal opportunity to gauge your aptitude for further study, perhaps at masters level.

Before you attend

There is no formal pre-reading for this course but if a student is completely new to electronic warfare (EW) it is recommended that reading a touch of UK, NATO or US literature/doctrine on EW will aid understanding of a field packed with acronyms and expressions unused in other fields.

Can I attend this course?
