The course examines human factors in management of system safety in projects and introduces hazard logs and a number of tools and techniques used in the system safety management process: bow-tie diagrams, event tree analysis, goal structure notation, and fault tree analysis. It also looks at common hazard and risk analysis techniques: HAZOPS, CCS, ZHQ and PRA. The course is set against a context of the MOD project environment but the principles have wider applicability. It is an element of a mandated programme for MOD system safety practitioners leading to an International Institute of Safety Risk Management Accreditation, but has wider relevance to non-MOD employees involved in the system safety aspects of projects.
System Safety Workshop Status
The System Safety training currently offered by the Defence Academy is now limited to e-learning courses only; System Safety In Action Online Training – SSIAOL, System Safety Process Management Online Training – SSPMOL and the System Safety Practitioner Online Training – SSPOL. These are still to be completed in order via the DLE and provide an excellent knowledge base of the subject.
New supporting face-to-face workshops are being sourced by the DE&S Sponsor, QSEP who hope to have a replacement delivery model in place by late summer 2019. As such, the practitioner certification exam cannot be undertaken until both online and face-to-face workshops have been completed. Exam will run Sep and Mar each year for those qualified to sit them.
