Head of Resources and Policy, Joint Force Development
Steve Petrie joined the Ministry of Defence in 1991 as a political-military analyst in the Defence Intelligence Staffs, concluding with an attachment to the International Criminal Tribunal (Yugoslavia), as an expert on mission. After passing the Advanced Command and Staff Course, Stephen worked in the Policy Area, including on secondment to the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit.
Steve went on to lead the Defence Strategic Trends programme, at the Development Concepts and Doctrine Centre, before becoming the UK’s Political Advisor at US Central Command. He then went on to take up a financial planning appointment at HQ Land Forces, before passing the Senior Civil Service Assessment Centre and attending the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS).
On his return from RCDS, he became Deputy Head Air RP, arriving during the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review. Steve took up an appointment at HQ Surgeon General on promotion to the senior civil service in December 2011. He was Chief of Staff up until Sept 2014 when he joined Joint Force Development, where he works as Head of Resources and Policy.
