About this course

This course is designed to ‘enhance’ your knowledge to a level of understanding that enables you to move on to the Cyber Intermediate Practical Course. This is a very fast paced and content heavy course that provides the underpinning knowledge required for training in cyber. It is recommended that you allow for a period of consolidation following the CYNF before progressing to the CYIP course.

The CYNF course is the first element in a trilogy of technical skills building courses; Network Fundamentals, Intermediate Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner. It is a prerequisite for later courses. It can also be used as a primer for the CNSC course.

What you will learn

You will learn/develop:
  • network theory concepts
  • the 7 layer OSI and TCP/IP models
  • network protocols
  • IP addressing and subnet masks
  • VPNs, IDS/IPSs, IP security and encryption
  • an introduction to common network threats and vulnerabilities

Before you attend

There are no prerequisites to join this course; however candidates are expected to have a basic understanding of how networks and network IP addressing works. The course has a heavy curriculum that moves quickly through the five days.

  • OSI model (Open Systems Interconnection).
  • An understanding of how IP classful and classless subnetting is achieved.
  • Basic understanding of network terminology
