About this course

During this 12-week programme, you will explore how to deliver through your people and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to effectively Line Manage, as outlined in the Line Manager's Deal.

You will complete the Line Manager in Defence (LMiD) programme as part of a TLB specific cohort, consisting of a maximum of 16 delegates. Cohorts will include both military and civilian line managers, from different ranks and grades, ensuring individuals with different backgrounds and experiences can connect with, and learn from, one another as the programme is ongoing.

The programme adopts a blended approach and includes both on-line and face to face learning. Each TLB will run an introductory session (Module 1) to welcome cohorts onto the programme. Participants will then have 4 weeks to complete the first on-line learning package (Module 2), which covers a broad range of line management responsibilities and consists of e-learning courses available via Civil Service Learning (CSL) and the Civilian Line Management Fundamentals Course available through the DLC . The first face to face learning day (Module 3) is delivered by DLC, before participants embark on the second on-line learning package (Module 4) via CSL. The final face to face learning day (Module 5) is delivered by DLC prior to participants drafting their personal development plans and implementing them over the coming weeks and months (Module 6).

Module 1   Week 1                       TLB Introductory Session (0.5 days) - delivered by your TLB Senior Sponsor
Module 2   Weeks 2 to 5             Online learning (12 hours)
Module 3   Week 6                       Face to face learning (1 day) - delivered at Shrivenham by DLC
Module 4   Weeks 7 to 11           Online learning (12 hours)
Module 5   Week 12                     Face to face learning (1 day) - delivered at Shrivenham by DLC
Module 6   Week 12                     Personal Development

You will need to commit to completing each element of the programme and in signing up to a LMiD cohort, you must ensure that you are available on the relevant dates for your TLB Introductory Session (Module 1) and both Face-to-Face learning sessions by DLC (Mods 3 & 5), including making the time available to complete the online learning. Failure to complete any one element of your Cohort Programme may mean you are withdrawn from training and transferred to a new cohort to recommence learning.

Delegates wanting current information regarding any TLB Sponsored Programme (i.e. enrolment, MOD 1 dates, times, venues) are to select the ‘Pre-Requisites’ tab above and contact their TLB Sponsor.

Please identify your relevant TLB from the list below, specifically the MOD 3 & 5 package dates most appropriate for you. Then click on the ‘register your interest’ button (above) and select your ‘appropriate’ Mod 3 TLB date to enrol. You will not need to self-enrol on the associated Mod 5 – DLC Admin Staff will automatically enrol you on receipt of your Mod 3 application, where Joining Instructions will be issued to reflect both.
