About this course

The course enables OF4 Military and MOD Civilian SEO/HEO managers (or equivalent) to focus on self-awareness and the impact of their behaviours on their staff or professional relationships.

It explores leading in a defence operating environment and covers leadership, change and transition. It covers models and theories to motivate and lead staff in the implementation of organisational strategy.  Therefore, applicants must meet the pre-requisite entry requirement and be able to provide work that reflects your ability to apply the knowledge gained in your own defence context.

This course is delivered through a blended approach of online learning through Defence Learning Environment (DLE) and virtual classroom delivery using web conferencing software. You will collaborate virtually in learning sets with other leaders. You will be assessed throughout by the facilitators and produce written work in a course learning journal  and a course workbook.

Satisfactory completion of all elements is required to gain a Defence  Academy Certificate and be eligible for accreditation.

A significant level of preparation is required to complete the course, commencing 6 weeks before the virtual classroom delivery, which includes:

  • a requirement to obtain 360 feedback from staff, colleagues, peers and managers through an online process (a report is sent to Line Manager)
  • a requirement to undergo a Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment
  • online learning activities, including written work, to prepare for the virtual classroom delivery

Delegates who have not completed the preparation work will be removed from the course prior to the virtual face to face element.

Please note that the virtual classroom is hosted via MS Teams on MODNet. A camera and microphone are required.
