Defence Academy Apprentice talks to 6th Form Students

09 January 2015 / Categories: DA News and Events

On the 3rd and 6th of November Change Team Apprentice Ian Jeffrey travelled to Clevedon School to deliver a presentation to sixth form students regarding the Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship (CSFTA) scheme and his experiences and opportunities that he has had at the Defence Academy so far.

It was an opportunity to talk about alternatives to University and the benefits of the CSFTA. The talk got students enthusiastic at the prospect of a rewarding and fulfilling career in government with real responsibility and opportunities that come with the job role in their prospective department.   Ian also summarised his experiences to date at the Defence Academy regarding the lectures, training and project management he had attended and has access to.

The presentation was very well received with the Head of Sixth Form, Jeremy Newall, who said that “A number of students have commented that they found the presentation inspiring and useful as they consider their career opportunities."  He also said the presentation had been “thoroughly prepared and Ian came across confident and assured whilst managing to pitch the presentation appropriately for the audience.” Jeremy also expressed interest in Ian returning to the school next year to talk about a career in the MOD and the wider Civil Service Apprenticeship.

It is hoped that in the future the CSFTA can engage with more schools and colleges to promote the scheme.
