On the 13th June the Defence Simulation Centre (DSC) hosted the Defence Modelling and Simulation Coherence (DMaSC/DSC) briefing day, an event attended by more than 85 MOD civilian and military delegates.
The event was designed to promote the use of Modelling & Simulation (M&S) across all aspects of defence using the coherence framework. The key speaker was Bihal Shah who led an informative discussion on how simulation and modelling is currently used across defence and the future possibilities. She was supported by other elements of M&S governance ranging from project managers to Service Command Technical Authorities who explained the ongoing issues with the implementation of simulation across all domains, from use as a training enabler to enhancing operational decision-making.
The delegates were then given a tour of the DSC facilities, including the Test & Reference centre and the experimental facilities in the Aviation Hall. A number of industry representatives gave demonstrations of their products, ranging from Command & Control systems on laptops to a fully-deployable flight simulator and man-portable live simulation training tools. These were well received by the delegates as it showed the vast range of possibilities when using simulation products, including asymmetric use.
The DSC intends to host these events regularly to highlight advances in the M&S field and to encourage MOD personnel to find synergies within their programmes.
