International Section delivered a Strategic Leadership Programme (SLP) at the HSBC Tower in Mexico City between 11 and 15 Mar 19.
This was the second SLP delivered in Mexico and comprised of a particularly strong cohort drawn from Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Army/Air Force), Secretaria de Marina (Navy), the Attorney General’s Office, the National Intelligence Centre, the British Embassy and HSBC.
The UK delivery team consisted of Lieutenant Colonel Tim Taylor and Dr Ifti Zaidi and the course was delivered through translation. The SLP was opened by the UK Defence Attaché, Captain Andy Hancock, and closed by Mr Hank Cole, HSBC Head of Security and Risk for Latin America.
In addition to the SLP, on the afternoon of Friday 15 Mar 19, the Defence Academy team delivered a Strategic Leadership Masterclass to 150 Flag and General Officers, senior academics and Mexican military officers at the Institute for Strategic Studies in National Security and Defence. Lieutenant Colonel Taylor and Dr Zaidi used the ‘Bosnia case study’ as a vehicle to discuss leadership and decision making, and their implications at the strategic, operational and tactical levels.
Both the SLP and the Strategic Leadership Masterclass were extremely well received with a high level of debate and candid input from the delegates.
