This year’s Poppy Appeal, organised by AcSM WO1 Lee Parkin, resulted in the highest total raised by the Defence Academy for a number of years.
The Poppy Appeal's numerous collection points across the Academy produced a figure just short of £3000. The final amount of £3407.57 was reached with help from a £450 cheque donated by the Station Officers Mess.
The Royal British legion (RBL) was delighted to learn that the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom had organised a range of fund-raising events and, to show their appreciation, the RBL sent their Community Fundraiser (CFR) Mrs Samantha Hickton, whose husband is a serving member in the RAF, to collect the final cheque from the AcSM WO1 LT Parkin.
'The RBL need is as great as ever and they were always looking for other ways to raise the profile of the RBL'.
Samantha thanked VAdm Duncan Potts CB, the Defence Academy's Director General and all the staff for their generosity. All the donations collected from the Academy would go to the Legion and help it fulfil its mission, to be there for our service men, women and their families when they are most in need.
