18 international cadets studying on English Language Wing’s Pre-Royal Military Academy Sandhurst course (Pre-RMAS Phase A) recently returned from an Adventurous Training (AT) week in the Brecon Beacons.
From trapeze jumps to navigating the foggy terrain of the Beacons, AT put the cadets’ newly acquired English language skills to the test. Taking classroom-based learning into the field, they reviewed the basics of orienteering and navigation whilst enjoying the best of the Welsh countryside: trawling steep inclines in a bid to obtain a bird’s eye view of… dense fog!
Conditions aside, the cadets’ determination and spirit is to be applauded. They pulled together well as a team to climb the 100ft walls of the indoor climbing centres and gave each other much needed encouragement during the more challenging climbs of the Welsh quarries.
Every cadet approached the challenges with enthusiasm, whilst being supported by knowledgeable and experienced military instructors. Overall it was a fantastic week spent away from the classroom and served its purpose - not only in terms of military fitness and skills development, but in terms of all important team-work.
