A Strategic Leadership Programme (SLP) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the African Union (AU) and selected Defence Attachés (DAs) over the period 18-22 Feb 19.

The course, run for members of the AU’s Peace Support Operations Division, also included DAs from China, Morocco, Senegal, Netherlands, Congo and Brazil as well as a representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The programme was opened and closed by Colonel Matt Munro the UK DA and included a very successful defence engagement reception at the residency hosted by the Ambassador, His Excellency Alastair McPhail.

This was the first time that an SLP had been delivered to the AU who have stated their intention to seek further UK engagement.  International Section will return to Addis Ababa in October to deliver another SLP but this time aimed solely at key Ethiopian officers and officials.  The Defence Academy delivery team comprised Dr Ifti Zaidi (Cranfield University) and Colonel Yori Griffiths (Intl Sect).
