The Defence Academy deliver the Strategic Leadership Programme in Kenya on 28 - 1 Feb 19.
Kenya is the UK’s lead nation within East Africa and this SLP was an element of the High Commissioner’s Enhanced Defence Engagement programme. The recent highly successful visits by the UK Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Defence reinforced the strong partnership between the two countries; the SLP is a tangible element of this.
This inaugural SLP was delivered to a select cohort of 20 Kenyan and 6 Tanzanian officers and officials and held at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen on the outskirts of Nairobi. The audience was a complementary mix of military (1*-OF4) and government officials.
The Defence Academy delivery team comprised Colonel Yori Griffiths and Dr Ifti Zaidi and hosted by Defence Section Nairobi and the IPSTC. The course was open by Brigadier Patrick Nderitu, Director IPSTC and Brigadier Mark Thornhill, Defence Advisor (Def Adv) Nairobi; His Excellency Nic Hailey, the British High Commissioner, closed the course.
An exceptionally positive interaction with a group eager to learn and using the platform that the SLP affords, allowed UK Defence Engagement opportunities to be leveraged.
