On Thursday 16th May the 25 Pounder was handed back to the WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess.

After a full restoration by the Artillery Hall staff the 25 Pounder (25Pdr) Field Gun was handed back to the WOs’ and Sgts’ Mess. The 25Pdr fell into disrepair over a period of time and was in much need of a paint job. However once the gun arrived at the Artillery Hall it was clear a full restoration was needed, over a 8 month period the gun was stripped down to every nut and bolt and repaired where required. The restoration was a real team effort of the Artillery Hall staff and produced a fantastic finish that will see the gun through many more years. The gun was initially presented to the mess following the completion of McKay House and it is only right that it remains in the mess in a condition fitting to such a vital asset of WW2.

SSgt Martin the Artificer Weapons said:

“It was an absolute privilege to be part of this restoration project and preserve a fantastic piece of WW2 equipment for future generations to enjoy.”
