The Defence Leadership Centre has recently delivered a successful Senior Leaders' Mental Fitness and Resilience (SLMFR) Course at Shrivenham.
This new one day SLMFR course is evidence-based and aimed at Defence Senior Leaders of 1-4* rank and SCS grade. Drawing on the PERMA model of Positive Psychology, it utilises exploration and extensive peer-engagement to underline the importance of mental fitness and resilience for both individuals and their organisations. Here’s what some of the delegates had to say:
Major General Jim Morris DSO:
“Gaining the knowledge to how best to inculcate the importance of Mental Fitness and Resilience in an organisation is an essential tool for every senior leader’s toolkit.”
Helen Helliwell SCS **:
“The facilitated conversations with peers really enriched this course, providing both space to reflect and to take positive actions to improve my mental fitness and resilience and that of my team.”
Brigadier JGE Bartholomew OBE:
“A fantastic course and opportunity to reflect. The sheer fact that we are now discussing this subject freely and openly in such circles is hugely encouraging and beneficial.”
Rear Admiral Andrew Burns OBE RN:
“It’s never too late to reflect on your leadership style and the effect it has on your people. The Senior Leaders’ Mental Fitness and Resilience course is another good opportunity to do this and think about how you can enhance your own wellbeing and resilience and that of your team.”
Places are still available for the SLMFR course running at Shrivenham on 28 November 2019 and 9 January 2020 and in London on 11 February 2020 and 10 March 2020. Please see the Defence Academy website more for details.
