About this course

This course is delivered by Cranfield University on behalf of the Defence College for Military Capability Integration.

This practitioner level course outlines how the Acquisition Environmental Management Framework is applied in practice. It covers the requirements set out in the Authority Policies (APs) and the structure and intent of the supporting guidance within the Acquisition Environmental Management Procedures (AEMPs).

The course focuses on how the framework is used to support proportionate, evidence based decision making across all stages of the Concept, Assessment, Demonstration, Manufacture, In Service, and Disposal (CADMID) lifecycle.

It emphasises ensuring sound environmental performance is understood, managed, and embedded in a way that supports effective decision making across the acquisition lifecycle.

What you will learn

This course will enable you to:
•    define environmental responsibilities and governance arrangements
•    conduct environmental management planning, including the development of Environmental Management Plans (EnvMPs), and understand how these evolve throughout the acquisition lifecycle
•    identify and assess environmental aspects and impacts
•    evaluate environmental performance in the context of risk, compliance, and operational capability, and understand how this supports resilience and wider capability outcomes
•    define parameters of sound environmental performance, including the use of metrics and targets, and determine what “sound” looks like for a PSS within its specific context
•    develop and maintain the supporting body of evidence, and produce proportionate Environmental Case Reports (ECRs)
•    interpret environmental evidence to support clear, defensible decision making
•    monitor, record, and drive continual improvement

How this course will help your career

Completion of AEMPs, alongside Environmental Awareness and Compliance in Defence and Sustainable Development in Defence Acquisition, will enable you to meet the MOD’s system environmental functional competencies at practitioner level and support eligibility for Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) practitioner membership.

The course also includes an embedded continuous professional development element, giving learners the opportunity to implement AEMPs in their workplace with the support of a mentor.
