About this course

This postgraduate course is delivered by Cranfield University on behalf of the Defence College for Military Capability Integration.

The AeroSystems Course (ASC) is a postgraduate-degree-level programme in Aerospace Systems, designed to provide you with specialist education. The course is 51-weeks long, comprising a range of subjects that provide essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to enable competent frontline operators to tackle the complex challenges within air systems test, requirements management, capability development and acquisition appointments.

Successful graduates will be awarded the Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) accreditation Qualified Aerosystems (QAS). Suitably qualified personnel go on to support the front line through tackling the complex challenges within air systems test, requirements management, capability development and acquisition appointments.

What you will learn

The ASC aims to provide you with specialist education in advanced air mission systems, aerospace concepts and acquisition practices, developing analysis and critical thinking skills. The syllabus will provide you with the knowledge and skills to exploit your operational and technical backgrounds to undertake complex test or acquisition appointments. 

Subjects are delivered by Cranfield University and military directing staff and include: 

•    the electromagnetic environment and radio frequency propagation
•    electro-optical and infra-red sensors
•    radar
•    information exchange
•    the digital domain
•    airborne computing, modelling and simulation
•    navigation systems
•    air platform design
•    space 
•    flight trials

You will also spend approximately 5 weeks visiting industry and military establishments in the UK and abroad.

How this course will help your career

Upon graduation you will be awarded the military Qualified AeroSystems (QAS) award, and further private study post-graduation may result in the award of a MSc in AeroSystems by Cranfield University. You can expect to be posted to appointments in Test and Evaluation, Requirements and Capability Management, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), research posts at DSTL, and ASWC posts relating to Mission Support.
