About this course
Formerly known as Knowledge and Information Management 3, this online course is designed to prepare you to support or stand in for information managers, or for those working in larger organisations with delegated information manager responsibilities.
It will enable you to support organisational level knowledge and information management (KIM) processes, maintain structured information environments, and encourage consistent information practices across their area of responsibility, while not holding the full leadership functions of an information manager role.

What you will learn
You will learn/develop:
• an understanding of defence information policy, standards and governance requirements
• how organisational KIM processes support effective information management across collaborative working environments
• the principles of information architecture, file plans and structured information environments
• approaches to monitoring information quality and supporting compliance activities
• the role of an assistant information manager in coordinating KIM activities across a unit or organisation
• how information managers oversee information governance, information risk and organisational information practices
• how to support information managers in implementing governance processes and driving good information behaviours

This course will develop your knowledge and skills required to support information managers and undertake delegated information management (IM) responsibilities within larger organisations.
It will help you contribute to local KIM coordination and support the implementation of information governance processes across your organisation.
The course also provides you with a valuable overview of organisational IM and for those who need to understand information manager responsibilities and governance processes without undertaking the full role.

You must have access to Modnet and Microsoft Teams.
Before you attend
You are required to complete KIM Fundamentals on the Defence Learning Environment (DLE).
Previous qualification, training or practical experience in IM, including courses such as Information Support Assistant or Information Support Officer, is beneficial but not essential.

How you will be assessed
There is formative assessment throughout the module.
You will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles and practices of IM.
Successful students will receive the Assistant Information Manager course certificate.
