The aim of the course is to give you a fundamental level awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion as a leadership function in supporting the Defence Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2018-2030 with a whole force concept of inclusion in the workplace.
Successful completion of the course is also a requirement prior to attending the Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner and/or Diversity and Inclusion Adviser course.
You will learn/develop:
- an awareness of the current Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and single-Service policies and initiatives that support the whole force concept for inclusion within the workplace
- an understanding of the 9 protected characteristics within the Equality Act 2010 and the different types of discrimination
- an understanding of the requirements under the Public Sector Equality Duty and link the MOD’s values and standards and service test to these requirements
- an understanding of what constitutes unacceptable behaviours in particular bullying, harassment, sex harassment and sexual harassment
- an understanding of what equality, diversity and inclusion means
- an awareness of the MOD’s bullying, harassment and discrimination complaints procedures, both informal and formal including the mediation process
- an awareness of the service complaints ombudsman and its role
- an awareness of the confidential helplines and support available to all MOD personnel
- an understanding of the demographics of the UK and the MOD
It will help you to become an advocate of diversity and inclusion promoting an inclusive environment.

Completion of Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals Course with pass mark of at least 80%.
