The FMC Management (Advanced) course brings together senior leaders and managers who will be undertaking capability and acquisition leadership roles.
The course is an interactive, online programme delivered by Cranfield University that brings together personnel employed in CAPAC management within the Defence Operating Model.
The course will require you to download and review pre-recorded lecture material from the Cranfield University Virtual Learning Environment each day and engage in live online seminars, tutorials and exercises hosted on Microsoft Teams to practise and consolidate skills and knowledge acquired.
Each presentation has Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs), which state what you should be able to do on completion. Achieving the ILOs will require you to reflect on the presentation content, consider the questions, follow up on references where necessary and raise any questions during the exercises, seminars and tutorials so that learning is consolidated.
This course is free to all military personnel and MOD civil servants.
The course builds on existing knowledge and experience and uses case studies, individual exercises, group activities and presentations from academics and current FMC practitioners to develop a framework for analysis, design and implementation of performance improvement across the processes, structures and interfaces that underpin FMC management.
You will cover:
- Key principles behind Defence Reform and their application in the development of models.
- The effect of strategy, policy, national and international issues on FMC management.
- The Strategic Force Development Process.
- The relationship between Financial and Defence Planning assumptions.
- The mapping of output based requirements to strategic objectives.
- Command Level Planning.
- The management of interfaces and dependencies required to achieve the Strategic Requirement.
- FMC Management between IR resets.
- Annual Budget Cycles.
The aim of the FMC (Advanced) course is to inform and prepare leaders and key managers within the FMC environment with the detailed process knowledge and higher level thinking skills necessary to perform their roles.
By the end of the course you will have acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the analysis, management, design and implementation of performance improvement across the various activities that underpin FMC Management.
